ART BATTLE
We are having Birmingham's very first Art Battle on New Year's Eve. Eight (8) artists will "duke it out" for 60 minutes to create the best piece of art and become the ART BATTLE CHAMPION! We are calling the event "New York / New Year's Eve Art Battle" party because we will be doing things on East coast time, which means the Art Battle begins at 9:30 and ends at 10:30 CT, and then we will pop the tops on the champagne at 11 CT, which is 12 midnight East Coast time. We will watch the ball drop and toast to 2020 with Times Square on a large screen, so please make plans to join us for this fun event. The doors open at 9pm CT. Hors d'oeuvres, Sangria and Champagne. $40 per person or $75 per couple. $20 for those under 21.
Art Battles are high energy, live painting contests between artists. Patrons pay a door fee to watch the artists "duke it out" in this 60-minute event, and each patron is issued one Art Battle token.
When the Art Battle begins, each participating artist starts with a blank canvas (all the same size) and the acrylic paint colors of their choice. There is an empty bucket beside each artists' easel. When the "Start Bell" rings, the artists begin painting on their canvas. They can paint any subject matter they choose using any paint brush or palette knife. Before the "End Bell" rings, each patron will drop their token into the bucket of the artist they feel is creating the best artwork. Once the "End Bell" rings, the artists are done painting and the tokens are counted. The artist with the most tokens is declared the Art Battle winner.
The Art Battle winner receives a $300 cash prize. All of the participating artists may sell the artwork he/she created during the Art Battle and keep 100% of the profit. Participating artists may also bring 3 additional pieces (any size up to 36 x 48) to sell and keep 100% of the profit, which means you will need to bring a way to process credit cards.
For artists who want to compete: Complete the application below. There is no entrance fee but there is a $100 "No Show" deposit. You will receive your deposit back in cash after the event. You must Venmo the $100 deposit to Tom-Findlay once you receive an acceptance email. Lastly, participating artists are responsible for bringing their own canvas, paints and brushes/palette knives. Each participating artist must use a 36 x 36 or 36 x 48 sized canvas in the Art Battle.
The Art Battles are held at Thomas Andrew Art, 1925 29th Ave. South, Homewood, AL 35209. If you are a participating artist, please arrive 30 minutes before the Art Battle begins to setup your space. Large stand up easels are provided. Participating artists must bring a blank canvas either 36 x 36 or 36 x 48, along with all their supplies needed (paints, brushes, palette knives, paper towels, rags, etc.) Dates and times will be announced when set.
